I followed the crowd, believing long queue means something but I was wrong. Compared to Sakaguchiya across the street, Hida Gyu Nigiri here comes way behind in terms of finesse; that final touch which separates the great from the good. The beef is tender alright but it’s not as aromatic as the other shop. Try both shops and you’ll understand. Good thing here is seatings. You can sit and eat and be a little more civilized. Using rice crackers as plates is also great idea; yummy and saves the earth at the same time.

We got 2 orders of “set C”. Amazing. We were tempted to order another two but there was a huge line up afterwards.

Recommend to just order combo A with 2 "salted", skip the one with sauce (overly powering took away the hida beef). Lover "cracker plate". Sushi are made to order meaning it takes time for each order so always a line-up. Also you are not suppose to eat on the street and in other stores. You are suppose to order your sushi outside and take it back to the inside to eat.

I originally thought this place seemed so touristy, but since we were there, our family queued anyway. There were about 10 people ahead of us but the line moved quickly. Well, these Hida beef sushi melt in your mouth! It was so delicious. It was definitely worth our money! We tried them at other shop but this place was better!

Not sure if it’s because of spring festival since the town is very crowded maybe the quality of meat given is not as good due to high demand. Ordered the 3pcs set at ¥1000. Very disappointed as the meat cannot chew at all and have to spit it out. That’s very sad as the review is very high and I do put hope it would melt in my mouth though.

Around 10 people queuing when we arrived, but it moved quick. We got our order in 5 min. This restaurant serves take away only. The Hida beef was very nice.

Be ready for a really long queue regardless day and timing...I ordered the most expensive set consisting of 3 premium sushi. Each piece is as delicate and delicious as you could ever expect from any beef sushi. I will not say it is a life-changing experience but it is definitely worth for trying for at least once when you come to Takayama:)

To die for this sushi. I’ve been waiting since the shop didn’t open yet but thrust me it worth for the life time moment.

Ordered set X, it is supposedly the best part of the beef and it was indeed juicy. But the sushi rice is not that great.

The line seemed long but it moved fast. Ordered combo C and everything tasted yummy and not overwhelmed by sauce. You could eat in the seating area near the shop window or go inside the affiliated store and sit by a cool little Japanese garden.

Beef Nigiri is so good as expected. The beef topped didn’t taste blood, but tendering. It broke when you swallow, wonderful experience

Choose X item, it's the best one, others are good but not so amazing. The price is too high, but it's fine to have a taste.

We ordered combo C and premier set. It’s so delicious and fresh. You can taste three flavors, yolk, original and salt. But definitely can’t miss the tender meat in premier set. Highly recommend.

This was a very touristy place where you can get a quick bite of Hida beef medium rare sushi. A 3 piece set was 1000Â¥ and, while tasty, was not quite worth the value and the line. Slightly overcooked beef and too much sauce ruined the experience.

1000yen for A5 grade Hida Beef on a delectable rice cracker, made by the hands of an obaasan. Very worth the trip to the old street just to eat this. Beware of long queues.

A popular place for Hida beef sushi with a long line outside the shop. The beef sushi is really great. Although the beef sushi is quite expensive, but must try!

Cash only, but it's a great way to try some inexpensive Hida beef. It was amazing. Make sure to get there before school is let out on the weekdays, it sells out quickly after that.

X setBest choice

Hida beef Sushi, beef is so tender and taste good, set B and C will so out very soon, better come early. Price for set are A - 600 yen, B - 600 yen, C - 700 yen, X 900 yen. Recommend to order C or X or both. There is only take away option but you can sit at the coffee shop opposite sushi shop. Again you should not miss this shop if you can eat beef .. and love to eat it!

Lucky enough that I didn't have to queue too long. And took menu X which contains 2 pieces of best grade Hida Beef sushi on a rice cracker. It tastes heavenly good, a must try when you are in Takayama!!!

The hosts were what made this place wonderful. There are 2 flights of stairs, but the unit was wonderful. We were unable to use the stove, but the microwave worked.

A place can enjoy Hida beef sushi.There are 4 sets of Hida beef sushi. I personally recommend the X set which comes with two sushi of high quality grilled Hida beef. Although the price is not cheap (Â¥1000 for two sushi), this gourmet worth it.

Pretty expensive but a must-try while visiting the Takayama Village. Flavoursome and tender beef with other types as well.

There was a long queue despite the rainy weather. They were really delicious and definitely worth queueing for!

You can order take a way Wagyu hida sushi and can eat inside table and chair. You can see Japanese Niwa inside.

Bought the sushi trio to find out what to order next. Decided to double down on the gunkan. The senbei plate was also good and crunchy.The queue could get quite long but I was fortunate enough to only wait for 2-3 people. Maybe visiting near the closing time helps? You would risk some menu being sold out though.

I mean seriously, Hida beef sushi off the street. Just look at the picture. You can’t look that good without tasting the part.

We came here at like 4 in the afternoon and didn't have to wait long at all - I'd recommend ordering set A with salt and skip the sauce, it was quality beef sushi 👌🏻

The two piece sushi had higher quality beef. Go for that. I had difficulty chewing the beef from the 3 piece sushi set. The rice cracker plate was absolutely delicious! I had to queue for about 10 minutes. Worth it.

I am so lucky that I did't take a long queue. So, it was took only about 10 mins for waiting to order. This set is the one you must try when you come to Takayama. Hida Beef sushi on a rice cracker tastes awesome and meat texture is so soft!!

I really love this piece of Sushi. The Hida beef is grilled just right that it melts in the mouth. There's a short queue but it moves fast. You can also enjoy it inside the shop just behind the booth. Worth it and give it a try!

I had tried some Hida beef sushi the night before and was a little apprehensive in trying it here as well. The quality, flavour & even the rice cracker were a complete 5/5!Melt in your mouth beef with flavourful rice & a rice cracker flavoured with I'm pretty sure shrimpI ordered the X set (two pieces of premium Hida beef)& it literally glistened in the sun
